CONSTRUCTION ISSUES

Open Competition

Our goal is to promote fair and open competition in the construction industry. We envision a future where all construction projects are awarded based on safety, quality, and price without regard to political or labor affiliation. Fair and open competition in procurement ensures that the best resources are available for each and every project.

Project Labor Agreements

We stand against Project Labor Agreements, agreements that only union workers will be hired for a construction project, because they are discriminatory and restrain open competition. Over 90% of construction workers in New Mexico are non-union. Requiring that a project be built using only union workers prevents most local workers from finding work on the project and requires the importing of skilled workers from surrounding states. Nationally, project labor agreements have been shown to reduce the number of project bidders, increase construction costs, and slow the construction process.
